I'm just sat here looking through the back patio doors watching my cat, Smudge, crouched down and ready to pounce on something hiding in the grass. I don't know what it is from where I'm sat - it may be a mouse, a small insect or just a bit of fluff - but one thing that strikes me about what she's doing is she's being instinctive. Years of evolution have primed that little black and orange cat so that she knows exactly what to do in that moment - everything that makes her what she is is currently flashing inside of her, driving her and telling her that it's time to hunt. It may be a long way around to get to my point, but the same is true with myself and Tassimo Coffee Pods and my instinctive drive to consume a nice hot cup of coffee.
Yeah, I know - a bit of convoluted way to make my point, but I've not yet had my first coffee of the day and so my head is a little bit foggy. But, evolution of the cat, the evolution of our coffee habits and, to a small degree, the evolution of the coffee machine all have elements within them that link.
Tassimo pods are at the apex of the pyramid of the evolution of coffee. Clever men in white lab coats have experimented with different blends and roasts. They've messed about with flavours and even reproduced the taste of our favourite coffees from out in the real world. They've even played with the machines that give me my coffee, not only from a brewing perspective but making sure that how I use that machine is as easy as it can be. Everything learnt about coffee over the years and how we prepare it has come together in one single coffee machine and a multitude of different Tassimo Pods ready for me to consume.
Smudge her stopped her hunt for now. It was a little moth hiding in the grass that she had her eye on, and she missed. You win some, you lose some, I suppose.
But that's not the case with coffee pods, whatever their brand or whoever their manufacturer. Those blokes in white coats replicate the taste and blend over and over so that if you enjoyed the coffee you had this morning, you can be sure that if you drop the same pod in your machine again tonight, you'll get exactly the same tasting coffee you had earlier. Unlike little Smudge, they get it right every single time.
And ultimately, that's why I love coffee machines in general and particularly the culmination of years of work and experimentation at the clever people at Bosch who designed and then built the Tassimo machine that sits on my kitchen counter top. It gives me the coffee I want and when I want it and all with just a simple press of a button.
Coffee, to me, is one of life's little discoveries that can make a world of difference to those who enjoy it. That first cup of coffee in the morning enables you to set out into the world and face everything that life is going to throw at you and with my Tassimo pods sitting at home waiting for me, I know the end of the day is going to be as good as the start.
